Or: “There’s so much junk on the Internet! Why should I consider reading your site over all those other sites?”
Excellent question! I’m glad you asked.
First off, I’ll quickly define ‘blog’ for you. Blog is short for ‘web log’, and is typically a website where one or more writers contribute regular commentary, opinions, or other materials such as videos, to be read by others on the Internet. In many cases, blogs become the equivalent of an online soap box where a person who subscribes to a particular point of view advocates that point of view in their blog, gathering readership online and the online equivalent of social capital. In some cases, online blogs gather such a following that the cross over into the real world, through book publications, or even movies. Visit Wikipedia for a more thorough explanation of blog.
So why create yet another blog? Well, because I can! Ok, that’s not the only reason. In practical terms, when Metrex began, I had this crazy idea to help people with their technology issues. Over time, that idea was refined to who we are today. But every day, there are various technology questions that I get asked. Many of these have simple answers but often the answers can be quite technical in nature that aren’t always so easy to understand. So I decided that when we redesigned the Metrex website, that I would write a series of articles answering common questions that we at Metrex receive.
And why, exactly, should you read this site? The target reader for the blog is typically a small business owner, or a non-profit volunteer, working to establish better practices and understanding of the technology in use within their organization. In larger organizations, there is typically an Information Technology (IT) team on whose shoulders it rests to understand how best apply technology to the organization to meet the business goals of that organizations. At Metrex, we mostly deal with small businesses and non-profit organizations who don’t have all those resources. Many technology firms can answer the same questions as we cover here – for a fee. But I believe that for Metrex, we can make better use of our own resources if we write about these in a public forum. With feedback and suggestions from our readers, we all benefit and that allows us to focus on what we do best for our customers.
